How does it work? First step: go to checkthis and put up your content. Second step: publish and share your beautiful link. There is no third step.
How is that possible? Everything you publish – videos, text, pictures and more – is automatically saved to its own web address. Something short and random like checkthis.com/abc. You can leave it public or password protect it, then invite other people to have a look or edit it themselves.
What do I use it for? All the stuff you can't fit on Twitter. Stuff that isn't a blog post. Stuff that doesn't need a whole site of its own. Creative projects, in-depth conversations, band promotions, holiday plans... and stuff we haven't thought of yet.
So it's like a blog? No, it's just a page. A blank canvas for you to personalise. Think of it this way. You don't have to buy a car to get to the airport – that's what taxis are for. You don't need to set up a blog to publish to the web – that's what checkthis is for, instant web publishing without the clutter.
Is it just one-way or social? Checkthis can do both. It sits outside the social networks if that's what you prefer. But you can also tap straight into the wider community by sharing favourite pages, having multiple editors and so on. And you can access instant feedback on how many people are viewing or commenting on your page.
Where do I sign up? You don't. Checkthis is open to all, straight away. Not even the most basic technical knowledge is required. We don't need to know your political view, your house number or your star sign. Just use the edit link, or sign in using your optional account. Either way, you don’t even need a password.
