KIKK Kontest 2013 in partnership with
Mons 2015 -European Capital of Culture 2015-

Pour la version française, c'est par ici.
KIKK announces the opening of applications for the KIKK Kontest 2013. This year the Kontest evolves, it will be organized in partnership with Mons 2015, the European Capital of Culture 2015.

KIKK Kontest will be a 24 hours non-stop multidisciplinary contest open to anyone that will take place during KIKK Festival on November 7th & 8th at Palais des Congrès in Namur (Belgium).

WHAT
WE EXPECT?

The aim is to create a multidisciplinary installation or experience that will travel abroad in different countries. A particular attention will be given to interactive pieces with a transdisciplinary approach (involving various media, i.e.: interactive installations combining image / sound / physical). We are interested in artistic works and conceptual approaches that propose an original, engaging and innovative experience. Following Mons 2015’s vision to be focused on wonder and amazement.

THEME: NEXT UTOPIA

The choice of the theme “Next Utopia” relates to the hopes we have in the infinite potential of new technologies. The aim of this initiative is to highlight today’s utopia and to speculate on what tomorrow’s utopias will be in comparison to the ones of the past that have or have not survived, with an emphasis on the concept of connectivity. What will be the dreams of tomorrow ? What would be the interactions between people, machines, elements ? How would they connect to other people, to information, to the world ?
Many questions waiting to be answered to by your imagination and creativity.

WHO
CAN PARTICIPATE ?

The application is not subject to geographical restrictions but you need to be in Namur on site onNovember 7 & 8. On the basis of a theme revealed 2 weeks before the festival, designers, web & mobile developers, digital artists, engineers, photographers, illustrators, sound designers or experts in any other field linked to the digital world will make digital creations using their talent and abilities. We strongly advise to constitute teams with complementary skills (i.e.: development, 3D, electronics, …) in order to propose a coherent project.

WHAT
YOU WIN ?

The winning team will get a 5.000 € prize in cash to develop further the prototype/project proposed at the end of the 24 hours. They will have 6 months to fully produce their project/installation using that amount of money. The installation will then tour Europe in 2014/2015 to be shown at different events events until Mons 2015. It’s a chance to get international visibility and high exposure to a very wide audience.

Competitors will be evaluated by an international jury, composed of members of the Mons 2015 & KIKK Festival organization as well as professional references within their field of activity. They will select 1 winning team as well as 2 runners up. There are more than 10.000 € worth of prizes, including a trip to MUTEK Festival and Elektra in Montreal as well as cash money.
